Asian Women for Equality is a non-profit organization working as a progressive force to change societal attitudes towards women, especially women of Asian descent; to advance equality for Asian women; and to create opportunities for Asian women to have meaningful participation and to take leadership roles in civil society.
As a small but dedicated group of women fighting for change, we are looking for someone passionate about advancing equality for women who can help us grow our organization and advance our mission.
As our Program Coordinator, you will help us grow our organization in a few different ways:
Organizing a community space: Having recently acquired a new space, your will help make it a place where we can organize support groups, meet with women in our community, host events and more.
Connecting us with the community: We currently work alongside many community groups on projects that advance our shared goals. New initiatives require outreach to connect with the community or new organizations and partnerships. Your work may include managing incoming email requests, finding speakers for an anti-racism workshop, connecting the community with our events, and supporting volunteer recruitment.
Helping us become more effective in our work: With our list of ambitious projects, you will carry out planned initiatives and help think of ways to become more effective so we can focus on advancing our goals. Your work might include finding new ways to organize volunteers, supporting the team with learning new technology, or helping manage our calendar of events
You will work best with us if:
You are aware of and committed to our mandate
You are passionate about being creative to help move our ideas forward
You are a self-starter and able to work independently
You are able to take direction and take accountability for your work. You will be working with several members of our team on various projects
You can commit to some regular hours in our space, but are comfortable with a flexible schedule. You may work some evenings or weekends
You have experience being involved in the community
You have solid written and verbal communication skills in English
You are proficient with Zoom, Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) or comfortable learning new technology
You have strong organizing skills including experience organizing events
This is a full-time (35 hours/week) 6 month contract.
We are especially, but not only interested in applicants who are women of colour, working class women and lesbian women.
Wage is $28/hour.
